Deputy General Director of Minh Phu Seafood Corp, Mr. Le Van Diep, said the company is harvesting farmed shrimp in an area of 151ha of water surface in Kien Giang province, the output averages 12-14MT per ha.
In the first four months this year, Minh Phu shipped 4,359MT of shrimp, valued at US$46.94 million, an increase of 46.13 percent in volume and 46.94 percent in value compared with the same period last year.
The U.S. remained its largest importer, purchasing 1,963MT of shrimp, worth US$29.94 million, accounting for more than 45 percent in volume and 53 percent in value of the company’s shrimp exports in this period.
Japan came second with US$7.35 million, followed by South Korea US$5.66 million, the EU with US$4.1 million, and Canada US$2.47 million.
Minh Phu is among the companies which had committed to “Say No to shrimp injected with foreign matters” to keep the prestige of Vietnamese shrimp products as well as its own brand.
According to Viet Nam Customs, by the end of April 2010, Minh Phu Seafood Corp has been topping the list of Viet Nam’s seafood exporters, and the largest shrimp exporter of the country.
