According to Ho Chi Minh City Sub-Department of Fisheries Resource Protection and Quality Management, the local shrimp farming area in 2009 was 7,800ha, mainly in two districts of Nha Be and Can Gio, with the production of more than 9,100MT, of which whiteleg shrimp made up more than 50 percent of total production. Over 80 percent of shrimp farmers gained profits, ranging from tens of millions of VND to hundreds of millions of VND.
In 2010, along with knowledge dissemination, modern technologies transfer, stocking schedule monitor, and PL quality management, the Sub-Department will start the system of information on diseases and water quality monitoring via mobile phones to shrimp farmers. (VietFishNews)
