Fimex VN to focus on trading operation

(vasep.com.vn) In the shrimp harvest

From latter April 2011, the government encouraged whiteleg shrimp farming in the areas having good infrastructure and efficient disease control system. Whiteleg shrimp farming surface has dramatically increased in Mekong Delta, compensating shortage of raw tiger shrimp.

In Q.II/2011, Fimex found supply of whiteleg shrimp for processing in Ben Tre and provinces across the South Central Coast; however, it could not gain great revenue due to high price of shrimp.

Though Fimex VN reported positive signs in its trading operations in the first half of the year, the company could not reach its set target due to volatile USD/VND exchange rate, rocketing input costs and high price of raw material.

In July 2011, Fimex VN increased its volume of processed shrimp to 887 MT, bringing US$11.2 million of sales (including sale of agricultural products). The company’s turnover in first seven months of 2011 reached US$43.7 million, up 72 percent from the same period of 2010. Fimex VN predicts to reach yearly target of US$80 million of revenue in 2011.

Up to the end of July, Fimex ranked the 4th in the top shrimp exporters in Vietnam, after Minh Phu Seafood Corp, Stapimex and Quoc Viet Co., Ltd.
