(vasep.com.vn) In late July 2012, Saota Foods Joint Stock Company (Fimex VN) kicked off shrimp farming project under microbiological techniques in the area of 6 hectares with an aim to reach high-yield production of free disease whiteleg shrimp.
If the project is successful, the company plans to use the new technique in farming area of 100 hectares in Vinh Chau district, Soc Trang province by the next year to ensure safe raw material for processing to export, improving competitiveness of its products traded in Japanese market.
In July 2012, Fimex VN processed 807 MT of frozen shrimp products of all varieties, slightly down from 877 MT in July 2011. However, only 419 MT were exported in this month, much fewer than 870 MT in the compatible month of last year. The company expected to boost its sales in August.
This year, shrimp farmers have met difficulties in shrimp production due to spreading shrimp disease. This resulted in huge damage and made farmers get troubles in shrimp farming, leading to rare supply of raw material in domestic market and higher export price of shrimp compared to those from other supplying countries.
