Ecuadorian shrimp exports almost doubled in the first two months of 2014 when compared with the same period last year, reported Diario Opinion.
Within January and February this year, shrimp exports totaled $399 million, up 97.2% compared with the first two months of 2013 ($202m).
The dramatic increase in shrimp exports’ value is a consequence of the increasing prices trend, from last year’s average $6,456 per metric ton to $9,614/t so far this year.
Export volumes also went up by 32.4% to 41,000t in the first two months of the year.
