Develop sustainable industrial shrimp farming

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On 23rd February 2016, Kien Giang Province people's Committee in collaboration with the General Directorate of fisheries (Ministry of agriculture and rural development) organized a workshop on Developing sustainable industrial shrimp farming. The province’s the goal is to produce 57,000 tonnes of shrimp in 2016, in which industrial and semi-industrial farmed shrimp is about 20000 tons.

In 2015 the province implemented breeding on  101,000 hectares of brackish water shrimp with output over than 52,000 tonnes, of which industrial and semi-industrial farmed area was 2,132 hectares, yielded 15,000 tons.

From 2011 until now, the movement of the industrial shrimp farming has expanded in scale, with the average growth rate of 7.5% per year.

In 2016, Kien Giang Province strives to develop 102,735 hectares of brackish water shrimp with output of  57,000 tonnes, of which industrial and semi-industrial farmed area is  2,700 hectares, yield 20,000 tons, the rest part is shrimp-rice and improved extensive farming. Demand for shrimp feed is 7.5 billion pieces, include about 3 billion from local production and  the rest is imported.

At the seminar, experts and  shrimp enterprises in Kien Giang Province exchanged experiences, discussed solutions for sustainable shrimp farming.
