November 11th, Vinh Hoan received notice of the People Committee of Dong Thap which approved for the company and its partners to establish a Collagen Plant in the province. Collagen is an Amino Acid Linkage which is from animal’s cartilage, skin and scale. It’s good for human cell, tissue repair and regeneration. Currently, Collagen is used primarily in the food industry, pharmaceutical and cosmetics. Collagen is getting more and more popular especially by its products and anti-aging methods in the world. Many years, Vinh Hoan has been trying to maximize value of the by products from Pangasius processing. Noticed Collagen production industry is a new business with potentially high profitability, but requires high technology. Vinh Hoan has co-operated with its partner producing Collagen samples from fish skin at a university’s laboratory in the US. The results show that Collagen from fish skin is good in terms of purity and molecular weight. Therefore, Vinh Hoan and its partner have discussed and agreed on a project to construct a Collagen Production Plant. With total productivity of 300 Tons of raw materials per day, pangasius processing plants everyday can supply a huge amount of fish skin for Collagen production. If fresh fish skin can be sold only at 0.1/kg, we can produce Collagen and sell it for $25-30/Kg. The project will be firstly executed as experiment, and to test the comprehensive of all equipments. After that, the plant will be constructed with total capacity of 1000Tons/year; and the total investment cost will be 12 million of dollars. If successful, the project will not only bring good business results, but also be meaningful in developing technology, effectively maximizing value of the by- products of Pangasius fish, and adding value to the whole seafood industry in general.
