Shrimps have been farmed in Ca Mau for many years. Activities of processing, logistics, processing are being developed. Local shrimp products are more and more favored by foreign importers.
Difficulties
However, shrimp farming in Ca Mau is facing a lot of difficulties. The shrimp culture is lagging behind its potential. Industrial farmed shrimp yield in Ca Mau is lower compared to other provinces in region and the whole country. Local shrimp culture is still affected by environment turbulence. Investment in production infrastructure and irrigation system has not been fully effective yet.
The province is boosting the improved extensive shrimp area in a bid to offset previous loss and meet raw shrimp for processing.
Boosting cooperation in shrimp farming
To develop industrial shrimp farming sustainably, it is necessary to cooperate closely among production chain. Enterprises should cooperate with shrimp farmers share mutual profit, farmers and households who have a lot of experiences in farming need to exchange their experience to other farmers and build close combination among cooperatives. Besides, the province needs to give priority to invest in upgrading irrigation system, electricity supply for industrial shrimp farming areas; intensify trade promotion and market expansion; apply advanced technology and expand producing groups. The correct investment plan with suitable steps for each project and area, Ca Mau will create new impetus in developing fish production, especially industrial shrimp culture.
