Ca Mau striving for seafood production of 530,000 tons in 2016

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2016 Ca Mau province plans to push the total output of fisheries and aquaculrure up 530,000 tons, an increase of 6% compared to the year 2015. The provinve will raise 15% shrimp farming areas this year and boost improved extensive shrimp farming.

In which, fisheries catching will reach 195,000 tons. On first days of the year, fishing activities are favorable and get positive results, most fishermen caught high production.  The prices of some marine products are stable at relatively high levels, some items are exported.

Farming output is expected to reach 335,000 tons, including 170,000 tons of shrimp. This year Ca Mau wil develop some new production models, focusing on scientific-technical guidance for farmers to increase productivity.

Under the plan, in 2016 the province will have 11,000 ha of industrial shrimp farming, up 15% compared with the same period a year ago. Besides, Ca Mau also focus on planning for main farming areas, developing essential infrastructures for shrimp farmers.

Improved extensive shrimp farming areas will increase by the same rate of 15% compared with the same period in 2015, raising the total areas of shrimp farming by the model to 90,000 ha. Improved extensive shrimp farming is considered as a sustainable production model with a higher level of safety than industrial farming. Most of the farmers obtain quite satisfactory results with steady income, contributing to the improvement of household economy.
