(vasep.com.vn) Some seafood enterprises in Ca Mau province are running under their capacity due to lack of raw material for processing.
This year to date, shrimp farmers in Ca Mau were heavily hit by weather turbulence, widespread epidemic, leading to an increasingly serious scarcity of raw shrimp supplied for seafood processors and exporters in the province.
Seafood processing plants in Ca Mau are operating under 50 percent of their capacity in which about 30 percent of plants are facing crisis, operating without efficiency or even stop running, Mr. Ly Van Thuan, General Secretary of Ca Mau Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors said.
About 40 percent of seafood enterprises in the province remain their effective operation thanks to their smart managing competence, modern equipments which can save raw material, reduce input cost and increase productivity.
Besides, lack of capital is causing headache problems to seafood enterprises in the locality. To solve lack of raw shrimp and “save” local seafood enterprises, Ca Mau implemented the project increasing productivity and quality of intensive rice-shrimp farming model. Industrial shrimp farming model are applying to more than 10,000 hectare farming area. However, this year to date, mortality rate of shrimp on industrial shrimp farming area accounted for more than 50 percent.
To ease enterprises’ current difficulties, there must be an overall measure from competent authorities such as supportive policy of capital and low interest rate loans for seafood enterprises, Mr. Thuan said.
