Ca Mau fostering cooperation between shrimp seed producers and farmers
(vasep.com.vn) Being the largest shrimp farming province of Vietnam with 266,000 hectares of shrimp farming area, Ca Mau province demands 16-18 billion of shrimp seed for stocking. However, the province can meet only 40 percent of local farmers’ seed demand.
Thus, seed suppliers need to cooperate with local farmers to ensure stable supply of shrimp seed and increase the productivity.
To cope with the situation, 14 cooperatives of shrimp farmers inside and outside the locality have met and negotiated with 11 shrimp seed producers to sign supply contracts with them. Accordingly, seed producers committed to supply good quality seed with stable price for farmers.
If these supply contracts are well-performed, the local authorities will expand the model in other provinces as well as strengthen the link among other stakeholders in production chain.
