Ca Mau concerns lack of electric power for shrimp production

(vasep.com.vn) In early 2014, industrial shrimp farming area in Tran Van Thoi district of Ca Mau province is increasingly rising to reach 435 hectares, up over 50 percent year on year. The fast growth of shrimp farming area led to lack of electric power for production.

Local farmers give priority to whiteleg shrimp thanks to its high productivity (6.5-7 MT/hectare) and short farming period (2.5-3 month/crop).

Local farmers are renovating whiteleg shrimp farming ponds and lagoons for new crop. One farming household even prepares 8 grow-out ponds for new crop.

Industrial shrimp farming fetches high profit but poses a lot of risk. Therefore, relevant agencies are trying to support farmers in their farming activities through environment control and ensuring enough power for production.

While expanding farming area, farmers need to obey the plan of the competent agencies to develop shrimp sector sustainably.
