Ca Mau: Choose the breakthrough in the industrial shrimp farming

Ca Mau is the leading province with

Ca Mau has the area of shrimp farming of 265,000 ha, representing over 40 percent of shrimp farming area of coastal provinces in Mekong Delta River. These are ideal conditions for Ca Mau to develop this key economic sector. By 2005, Ca Mau strives to improve the industrial shrimp farming area to 10,000 ha as Resolution of the 14th Provincial Party Congress proposed.

In recent years, despite of development, the technique of shrimp farming in Ca Mau was not out of backward; the traditional extensive farming remains the principal. Thus, farmed shrimp yield in Ca Mau was the lowest compared to other provinces in region.

In 2010, farmed shrimp yield in Ca Mau reached average 400 kg per ha, total farmed shrimp production reached 103,900 MT that did not meet the demand of raw material for export processing plants. The 14th Provincial Party Congress in Ca Mau confirmed that the model of industrial shrimp farming in the province less developed and did not meet the proposed targets. So far, the area of industrial shrimp farming in Ca Mau reached 1,440 ha.

The province determined to gradually increase the provincial area of industrial shrimp farming and strives to reach 10,000 ha in 2015.
