(vasep.com.vn) Ca Mau is one of 21 provinces nationwide which pioneer to implement pilot agricultural insurance. In Ca Mau, agricultural insurance is applied to black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp farmed in extensive and industrial models.
More than 20,000 shrimp farming households with over 24,100 hectares participated the insurance. Agricultural insurance is expected to assist farmers to compensate for damages caused by natural disasters and epidemics.
The Decision No.315/QĐ-TT dated March 1st 2011 of the Prime Minister on pilot implementation of agricultural insurance during 2011-2013 was promulgated in order to help agricultural producers and farmers hold initiative in remedying and recovering from financial losses caused by natural disasters or epidemics, contributing to assuring social welfare in rural areas and promoting agricultural production.
Accordingly, agricultural insurance was applied pilot basis in 3 districts and cities of Ca Mau with the area of over 24,100 hectares and the participation of over 20,000 farmers.
The Decision No.315/QĐ-TTg clarified that the state will support 100 percent of insurance premiums for poor farmers, support 80 percent of insurance premiums for farmers living just above the poverty, support 60 percent of insurance premiums for others that participate in agricultural insurance, support 20 percent of insurance premiums for agricultural production organizations that participate in agricultural insurance.
