Binh Thuan enjoys a bumper shrimp harvest

(vasep.com.vn) In 2013, shrimp farmers in Binh Thuan province has enjoyed a bumper harvest and earned high profit thanks to high shrimp price and well-controlled diseases on shrimp.

In 2013, brackishwater shrimp farming in the locality has developed well and fetched high profit to farmers thanks to hiking price of commercial shrimp. The province totaled 832.49 hectares of water surface for shrimp farming. Stocking area reached 1,370 hectares, mainly for cultivating whiteleg shrimp and black tiger shrimp area was 2.5 hectares. In the year, 294.75 hectares were harvested and fetched the production of 12,742 MT with average productivity of 9 MT per hectare.

The province has 150 facilities of shrimp seed with 667 hatcheries, 29 ones higher than 2012.

The total number of facilities of the province includes 48 facilities of black tiger shrimp seed; 93 ones for producing whiteleg shrimp seed and 9 facilities for sweet snail, crab and finfish seed. Local facilities produced 18 billion post-larvae shrimp, equating to 180 percent of the yearly plan and increasing 28.6 percent year-on-year. The figure comprises 1.7 billion of black tiger shrimp seed and 16.3 billion of whiteleg shrimp seed. Some facilities shifted to produce vannamei seed to meet the market’s demand.
