Bac Lieu: Up 64 percent in seafood exports

(vasep.com.vn) Through June 2014, seafood exports of Bac Lieu province hit the highest revenue of US$209 million, fulfilling 59 percent of its yearly plan and up 64 percent year on year.

Frozen shrimp exports of the locality reached over 20,770 MT, up 41 percent year on year.

Local seafood exporters completed their targets of sales and earned high profit. There were no consignments returned due to poor standards of hygiene. The proportion of value-added products for export marked a significant growth. Thanks to high quality of exported items, the average export price increased by US$2-3 per kilogram. That helps processors pay higher price for purchasing raw material from farmers.

Besides, local authorities strengthened guiding farmers and enterprises in their production and trade activities as well as update market information to boost local exporters’ revenue.

To facilitate seafood exports, local authorities should give favorable conditions for processors to receive long-term loans, intensify the link between processors and farmers for processors to have enough raw material for processing.
