(vasep.com.vn) In the last week of December 2013, Bac Lieu province harvested nearly 2,400 MT of shrimp while only one fourth of local processing plants sourced raw shrimp for processing with the volume of 488 MT. The rest was sold to processors in other provinces.
Accordingly, raw shrimp price tended to be lower than the early December. The price of black tiger shrimp count 30 piece per kilogram reduced VND30,000 – 40,000 to VND240,000 per kilogram.
The province’s annual shrimp production reached 60,000 – 66,000 MT that are enough for local shrimp processors’ demand. However, local processors sourced only 50 percent of raw shrimp produced by local farmers and they must buy shrimp from outside province for processing. In 2014, local authorities will strengthen linkage between shrimp enterprises and farmers to ensure that all shrimp produced by the province can satisfy demand from local processors.
In 2013, shrimp exports by the province hit 35,000 MT, worth more than US$210 million.
