(vasep.com.vn) In the first eight months of 2012, Ca Mau Agricultural Products and Foodstuff Im-Ex Joint Stock Company (Agrimexco Ca Mau) has shipped abroad 1,200 MT of shrimp of all varieties and generated total value of US$8.6 million. Japan and the EU represented a 70 percent proportion in the company’s exports.
Agrimexco Ca Mau still remained shrimp shipment to Japan, though the market is strictly applying Ethoxyquin test on shrimp consignments from Vietnam. Ca Mau-based firm plans to improve control system of Ethoxyquin residues in its shrimp for export to the market.
Value-added items made up 20 percent of Agrimexco Ca Mau’s total shrimp export to Japan; the rest was fresh and IQF frozen shrimp items.
Agrimexco Ca Mau is currently running its owned farm of 8 hectares in Tran Van Thoi district for about 30 MT of shrimp per harvest, satisfying 4 percent of the company’s needs for processing plant. The firm always pays attention on managing shrimp seed quality, environmental impacts and diseases risks in farming waters; as well as strictly controls antibiotic residues in shrimp. As a result, Agrimexco Ca Mau ensures safe shrimp supply for processing to export.
This period, shrimp export to the EU is however down by half from the same time last year. Due to economic downturn in the region, European partners bought mostly whiteleg shrimp to respond to current consumption demand and hesitate to purchase more products for inventories.
