More land for aquaculture in Can Tho province by 2020
(vasep.com.vn) By 2020, Can Tho province will have 26,000 hectares for aquaculture, 13,000-hectare increase compared to the current superficies. Fishery production is expected to reach 335,000 MT, 160,000 MT of which are exported for total value of over US$1 billion.
Can Tho province will develop two farming hubs. The first hub covers an area of 16,000 hectare for fish cages and scampi and pangasius cultivation. The second one totals 10,000 hectares to grow catfish and other fish species. Shrimp and fishes are farmed in rice fields.
A center for aquatic seed production is planned to be built in the province with total area of 214.7 hectares. The new center will provide 1 – 2 billion of fish seeds per year.
