Vietnam seafood exports are extended to ASEAN

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to statistics from Vietnam customs, seafood exports to ASEAN countries in January-2016 is 35% higher than the last months of 2015. This reflects enterprises tend to boost exports to the market.

While seafood enterprises are struggling with some export markets, they are aiming to Asian market with a population of over 3 billion people having similar same income levels with to expand markets.

Vietnam seafood export value in January 2016 reached US$578 million, an increase of more than 14% from the same period last year and 4.84% increase compared to December 2015. This is the positive signals for Vietnam seafood. January 2016 exports are also the second highest value in 6 years (2011-2016), after level of US$583.59 million in January 2014.

In January 2016, seafood exports to some important markets like the United States, China (including Hong Kong), Korea and ASEAN have high growths. Exports to the EU increased by 6% ( 17.8% reduction in Jan 2015), to Japan up 6% (versue13.9% reduction in Jan 2015).

The main items like shrimp and pangasius have positive growths in exports in January 2016. In which, in shrimp exports got an increase of 10%. Black tiger shrimp exports increased sharply by 23%, while decreased 19.07% in the same period 2015  and 30.5% drop in all year of 2015. Meanwhile, whiteleg shrimp have decreased by much slower levels, almost 5%, compared to the same period in 2015 with drop of 23.7% and 24.6% fall by 2015. Pangasius exports rose nearly 1%, compare to the same period in 2015 with decline of 12.2% and drop of 11.5% in  2015.

Octopus and squid exports increased by 10%, after dropping  0.8% at the same period in 2015  and 11.2% reduction by all year of 2015. Tuna exports has signs of recovery, increasing by over 11% after falling 21.3% in January  2015, and drop of 6% in all year of 2015.
