Vietnam bivalve mollusk exports up in Jan-Feb 2016

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the last months of 2015 and the early 2016, Vietnam bivalve mollusk exports reported the growth. Sales in Dec 2015 and Jan 2016 reported the year-on-year growth of 58.8% and 33.5%, respectively. However, the figure in Feb 2016 downed 21.8% and reached US$3.7 million.

The decline in bivalve mollusk exports in Feb 2016 was attributable to lack of raw material and lower export price. The Lunar New Year holiday in Vietnam took place in Feb that interrupted exports of the item in the month.

In Jan-Feb 2016, bivalve mollusk exports hit US$11 million, up 7.6% year on year. Top largest markets of Vietnam bivalve mollusk (the U.S., Taiwan and Australia) reported the positive growth of 100.1%, 198.3% and 118.1% over the same period last year. In the period, Vietnam boosted exporting to these markets thanks to higher export price and strong demand from these markets for year-end holidays.

Predictably, bivalve mollusk exports by Vietnam in 2016 will not rise due to limitation of raw material supply. Hot weather and high salinity in the early months of the year affected to the production of bivalve mollusk in some provinces.
