Seafood exported to UAE needs Halal certification

(vasep.com.vn) The National Agro Forestry Fisheries Quality Assurance (NAFIQAD) under Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued a new rule on Halal certification.

Accordingly, all fish products imported into UAE market needs to be certified as Halal food. This means aquatic species are produced through slaughtering, processing and labeling steps in compliance with Codex's food safety standards and the Sharia Islamic Law. The new rule will take effect by June 2014.

Currently, NAFIQAD is actively cooperating with relevant agencies to prepare to receive a delegation from the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, which will assess and accredit local Halal certifiers in Vietnam.

NAFIQAD asks local seafood processors and exporters to UAE to contact their importers in order to update information and meet new requirements to facilitate seafood exports to this market.
