VIETNAM FISHERIES INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION – VIETIFISH 2017 – THE EVENT FOR SEAFOOD PROFESIONAL

Powered by Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), VIETFISH is the annual international aquaculture exhibition, which takes place from 29th to 31st August at SECC – 799 Nguyen Van Linh St., district 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

At its 19th edition, VIETFISH carrying the message “Asia’s home of Seafood” is projected to attract more than 200 exhibitors and suppliers from 15 countries and 16.000 visitors from 13 countries come to the event. This is where food professionals sourcing the latest in wild, farmed and value added seafood can discover new product lines and technology that will satisfy today’s adventurous and increasingly health-conscious consumers. Moreover, attendees can join many activities during this event for example cooking demonstration, fisheries and aquaculture seminars.

Vietfish has succeeded to be a business platform for fisheries stakeholders recent years. The number of exhibiting booths at this edition climbed from 320 to 361, an increase of 12.8% compared to ones in 2012. 90% of old exhibitors have rebooked the booths for next years and 87% of them were satisfied when attending Vietfish. The number of exhibitors from foreign countries also significantly increased from 8 to 15 countries. This obvious evidence shows that Vietfish is a trust destination for stakeholders who are seeking business opportunities in fishery.

With great effort to make Vietfish become the largest international seafood fair in Asia and a powerful link among seafood enterprises, VASEP has continuously innovated and improved the quality of Vietfish, invested and developed programs to make Vietfish come a global brand, aim to target 8 billion USD in exports earnings by 2017.

Seafood export continues as the central point of agriculture.

Fishery is still the key export sector of Vietnam which shares 22% contribution of the total exports in Agriculture – Forestry – Seafood (2015).

With the average growth rate of 8% in the last decade (2006 – 2016), Vietnam aquaculture has achieved a new level in technology, yet sustainability in environment and community development, which ranked Vietnam the top 5 leading seafood exporters. Vietnam now exports seafood to 162 markets from its nearly 500 certified factories; many of them are qualified to import standards of top markets such as EU, USA, Japan.

Thanks to the stable growth during the last 20 years, the fisheries industry has not only created millions of jobs, it also gives a hand in developing auxiliary industries including machinery, food industry, factory management, and other fisheries services with higher quality aim to strengthen Vietnam seafood network in the world market.

Overcoming challenges to grow up

Vietnam seafood exports exceeded 7 billion USD in 2016. To gain this impressive achievement, Vietnam Fisheries has experienced many challenges and obstacles due to the high competitions. Among them is the bad news and information which is threatening the good reputation of Vietnam fisheries.  This results much seriously negative impacts on consumers. In addition, climate change, material shortage, technology and commercial barriers also bring many difficulties to the industry. Nevertheless, thanks to existing experiences and high-level skills, fisheries stakeholders have overcome these challenges aim to recover the industry and target to the sustainable development in the foreseeable future.

The future is built from the present

A Vietnam seafood export is predicted to hit 7.4 billion USD this year, an increase of 6% percent compared to the figure recorded in 2016. Shrimp and Pangasius remain the key export products which are expected to reach growth target in 2017. According to figure of 2 first quarters 2017, Vietnam seafood exports had reached 3.5 billion USD. This result brings some good prospects from the positive transform in the structure of seafood sector, building a strong and sustainable future of the aquaculture industry.
