In 2016: Global fish production peaked at 171 mil. tonnes, with aquaculture representing 47%.
The total first sale value estimated at $362 billion, of which $232 billion from aquaculture.

In 2016: Global aquaculture production was 110.2 million tonnes, with the first-sale value at $243.5 billion. In which:
- 80.0 million tonnes of food fish ($231.6 billion)
- 30.1 million tonnes of aquatic plants ($11.7 billion)
- 37900 tonnes of non-food products ( $214.6 million)

WORLD FISH CONSUMPTION
Between 1961 and 2016: Global food fish consumption increased at 3.2%/year:
- outpaced population growth (1.6%/year);
- exceeded meat from all animals combined (2.8%/year).
Fish consumption grew from 9.0 kg in 1961 to 20.2 kg in 2015, at rate of 1.5%/year. Consumption expansion driven by increased production & other factors, e.g. reduced wastage.

Repartition of seafood innovation in regards of the species in EU
- Pangasius not a widespread fish in EU, mostly raised in Asia, and it represents only 0.67% of seafood innovation.
- To thwart a poor image of this fish in Europe, it’s seems that companies tried to communicate on the sustainability.
