Ba Ria-Vung Tau: Tilapia farming area to hit 350 ha by 2020

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has recently issued the Decision No.1639/QD-BNN-TCTS on approving the development planning for tilapia farming by 2020, driven by 2030.

Accordingly, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province planned to be one of the key provinces for tilapia farming in Vietnam. According to this plan, tilapia farming area in the province expected to hit 350 ha by 2020 and 500 ha by 2030.

The MARD targeted to develop the sector effectively and sustainably with diversified products to meet domestic consumption demand and exports; to produce enough high-quality tilapia seeds for commercial products; to control diseases in the production; and create jobs and raise incomes for farmers. For the domestic market, most of products in trade are live/fresh fish and whole, chilled tilapia. For major importing markets such as the U.S, Africa, the Middle East and a number of other potential markets, the segment of products with high price is more focused. with mainly frozen fillets, as well as value-added products to raise selling prices and competitiveness.
