Vietnam crab sales up 9.8% in Jan-May 2016

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, in May 2016, Vietnam crab exports reported the revenue of US$8.3 million, up 1.6% year on year. The figure in Jan-May 2016 was US$40.2 million, up 9.8% year on year.

In Jan-May 2016, Vietnam crab was exported to 31 markets. Top 8 leading markets included the U.S., Japan, EU, China & Hong Kong, ASEAN, Australia, Canada and Taiwan. Among top 8 markets; Japan, China and Canada reported the surge in importing crab from Vietnam in the period.

Vietnam’s sales of live/fresh/frozen/dried/salted crabs saw the increase while exports of other processed crabs reduced. The sales of live/fresh/frozen/dried/salted crabs in Jan-May reached US$18.7 million, up 33.4% year on year. Canned crabs reached the export turnover of US$17.6 million, up 10.6% year on year while other processed crabs downed 42% year on year.

The U.S.

In May 2016, Vietnam crabs exported to the U.S. reached nearly US$2 million, down 37.5% year on year. The figure through May 2016 hit US$14.7 million, down 6.6% year on year.

The market raised 11% in importing canned crabs from Vietnam with the value of US$9.2 million while reducing other processed crabs.

Japan

Japan surpassed EU to hold the 2nd rank among top 8 largest importers of Vietnam crab. In May 2016, Vietnam crab exports to EU reached US$2.8 million, up 55.5% year on year. Until May 2016, the figure touched US$7.9 million, up 16.1% year on year.

Japan increased importing live/fresh/frozen/dried/salted crabs from Vietnam in Jan-May 2016 while reducing imports of processed and canned crab products.

EU

Crab exports by Vietnam to EU in May 2016 reached US$1.6 million, down 6.6% year on year. In the first 5 months of this year, the sales to the market downed 2.9% to touch US$7.35 million.

France, the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium remained the leading importers of Vietnam crab in the EU bloc.

In the period, EU raised 8.8% in importing canned crab products from Vietnam with the value of US$6.2 million. These items accounted for the largest proportion out of Vietnam’s total crab exports to EU. While EU reduced importing live/fresh/frozen/dried/salted crabs from Vietnam.

It is forecast that Vietnam crab exports in June 2016 will continue the recovery.
