QII/2016: Down in Vietnam cephalopod exports

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 6 months of 2016, Vietnam cephalopod exports totaled US$179.35 million, down 9.7% from the same period in 2015.

In QII/2016, the sales hit US$97.77 million, down 12.4% year on year, but up from QI/2016.

In the first half of this year, top 9 major markets, accounting for 99.5% of total export value included Korea, Japan, ASEAN, EU, China and Hong Kong, the U.S, Taiwan, Australia and Israel. Exports to top 3 leading importing markets, South Korea, Japan and the EU witnessed the year-on-year declines, in which, South Korea down 10.2%, Japan down 7% and the EU down 1.9%. However, exports to some smaller markets showed sharp rises.

South Korea

In QII/2016, Vietnam cephalopod exports to South Korea reached US$35.91 million, down 8.3% compared to QII/2015. The figure in Jan-Jun 2016 estimated at US$67.31 million, down 10.2% year on year. South Korea still remained as the largest cephalopod buyer from Vietnam, picking up 38% of total cephalopod exports.

Japan

According to Vietnam Customs, Vietnam cephalopod exports to Japan in QII/2016 totaled US$25.38 million, down 10.5% compared to the same period in 2015. The figure in Jan-Jun 2016 estimated at US$45.17 million, down 7% year on year. Japan stayed as the 2nd largest importer of Vietnam, accounting for 25% of total cephalopod exports.

EU

According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam cephalopod exports to the EU in QII/2016 valued US$14.4 million, down 10.7% from QII/2015. The figure in Jan-Jun 2016 estimated at US$25.55 million, down 1.9% year on year.

ASEAN

ASEAN claimed as the 4th biggest importer of cephalopod from Vietnam, picking up 13%. In Jan-Jun 2016, Vietnam cephalopod exports to ASEAN reached US$23.28 million, down 14% compared to the same period in 2015. The figure in QII/2016 estimated at US$11.97 million, down 23.5% compared to QII/ 2015. Out of the region, Thailand held the 1st rank in top largest cephalopod importers from Vietnam. Shipments to this market in II/2016 touched US$9.2 million and the figure in the first 6 months this year was US$18.3 million, down 16.9% compared to the same period of 2015. Malaysia ranked the 2nd, in which, exports to this country in QII/2016 valued US$1.6 million and the figure in Jan-Jun 2016 estimated at US$3.2 million.
