QI/2016: Up in capture and aquaculture production

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the statistics of Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), despite the unfavourable weather, in QI/2016, catching output was up 3.4% and aquaculture volume increased by 1.8% compared to the same period of 2015.

In the first 3 months of 2016, in some Northern provinces, due to impact of the Northeast monsoon; pelagic resources were consequently fewer and fishing vessels stayed ashore for periodical repairs and maintenance.

In the Central and Southern provinces, fishing activities got good results thanks to favorable weather, lower fuel prices, and higher price of seafood products.

In the Mekong Delta, capture production in QI/2016 estimated at 720,000 MT, up 3.4% year on year. In particular, marine catch hit 683,000 MT, up 3.8% compared to Feb 2015, and inland catch downed 2.6%.

In QI/2016, ocean tuna production touched 6,228 MT, a year-on-year increase of 6.92%. In which, Binh Dinh province estimated at 3,370 MT, up 27.17%; Khanh Hoa province with 1,124 MT, down 8.47%; Phu Yen province with 2,165 MT, down 7.87% over the same period of 2015.

In Mar 2016, aquaculture output estimated to reach 197,000 MT, up 0.3% compared to Mar 2015. The figure in QI/2016 estimated at 548,000 MT, up 1.8% compared to the same period last year.

In QI/2016, pangasius yield in the Mekong Delta provinces estimated at 189,875 MT, down 2% from QI/2015. In particular, Vinh Long province estimated at 19,670 MT; Dong Thap province with 44,000 MT; An Giang province with 47,085 MT.

According to reports of the Mekong Delta provinces, in QI/2016, the area for black tiger shrimp farming estimated to touch 505,981 ha, with the output of 34,958 MT. The area for whiteleg shrimp farming hit 15,139 ha, with the production of 18,980 MT.
