Crab exports to Australia rocketed in May

(vasep.com.vn) Though making up only 2.4% of Vietnam's total crab exports, Australia shows sharp increase in importing crab from Vietnam.

Data from General Customs revealed that through May, Vietnamese companies earned US$ 889 thousand from crab exports to the market, representing a rise of 185% over the same period in 2014. This is partly a result of the 236.5% year-on-year growth in May.

From January to April, according to International Trade Centre (ITC), Australia imported 714 MT of crabs from 17 countries, with the value of US$ 8.5 million. Imports from  ASEAN countries dominated the market share with 74.6% of total value and 76.9% of  total value. Frozen crabs and processed crabs are the main products imported by Australia.

Vietnam is the fourth biggest crab exporting market to Australia, after Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia but the average price of crabs from Vietnam is much lower.
