Crab exports falls 8%

(vasep.com.vn) In the last 4 months, Vietnam crab exports decreased continuously. Crab export value in October was as much as 73.5% of that in same period in 2014. Total crab export value for the first 10 months of 2015 touched US$ 95 million, down 8% year on year.

Exports of crabs to into three major markets, namely the US, Japan and the EU decreased by 32%, 16% and 34%, repectively. In contrast, exports to China and Hong Kong increased strongly, experiencing a nearly 40% increase from last year result.

The US

In the recent 4 consecutive months, crabs exports from Vietnam to the US dropped . As the US is the largest importing market, occupying 48% of total crab exports from Vietnam, the decline affects results this year. 

After 10 months of 2015, crab exports to the US reported at nearly US$ 45.5 million, down 18% year on year.

Japan

Vietnam's crab export in October, being nearly 3.7 million, was lower than last year result. Cumulative result for the first 10 months of the year was reported at around US$ 19 million, up 22% year on year. 

Curently, to Vietnam, Japan is the second biggest crab importing market.

The EU

Since June, crabs exports from Vietnam to EU markets has been decreasing. Vietnamese crab exporters earned a total revenue of nearly US$ 1.7 million from the market in October.  From January to October, the EU spent nearly US$ 17 million on crab imported from Vietnam. 

Under the effects of depreciation in EUR and JPY against USD, it is expected that Vietnam crab exports to the EU and Japan will continue to decline in the near future.
