Bivalve mollusks exports to Japan increase

(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, by 15th August, Vietnamese companies earned a total revenue of US$ 6.16 million from bivalve mollusk exports to Japan, up 25.6% year on year. Processed clam is the major product that Vietnam sends here. Japan is Vietnam's second biggest importing market for this species, right after the EU. Exports to Japan represent 12.3% of total bivalve mollusk exports from Vietnam.

 Data from International Trade Centre (ITC) showes that in the first 7 months of this year, bivalve mollusk imported in Japan valued US$ 362.82 million, up 5% year on year.  

Frozen clams (HS 030779) imports valued US$ 17.13 million, down 9%. Japan sourced frozen clams from 7 countries. Imports from China, the biggest source, valued US$ 8.57 million, down from US$ 10.54 million in the same period in 2014. Imports from Canada, the second biggest source, tend to rise. Imports from Vietnam, meanwhile, valued US$ 11 thousand. It is modest, however, it is also noted that Vietnam did not send any frozen clam to Japan in the same period in 2014. 

Japan imported processed clams from 10 countries worldwide, with a value of US$ 51.55 million. China is the biggest source, followed by South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
