Bivalve exports to the EU ups 10.5%

(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam bivalve export in Q1/2015 totaled US$ 17 million, up 8.8% year on year.

The EU, occupying 68.23% of total bivalve exports from Vietnam, continues to be the leading importing market with US$ 11.64 million, up 10.5%. Top 3 largest import markets in the EU includes Portugal, Spain and Italy with growth rates of  54%, negative 4.6% and 26.7%, repectively. 

In the first three months of 2015, Vietnam exporters boosted bivalve sales to Portugal.  Sales reached US$ 2.6 million, revealing a 54% year on year increase. As the major bivalve supplier to Portugal, Vietnam occupies 37-44% of the market share, higher than both Spain and New Zealand.

The first 3 months of 2015 witnessed a boom in bivalve exports from Vietnam to  Portugal as export of clams (HS code 030779) found its upturn. In the near future, Portugal will be expected increase imports of clams, mussels & scallop. Therefore, opportunities are still open for Vietnamese bivalve exporters.

Vietnamese bivalve exporters also see positive growth rates to other markets in the period. Particularly,  exports to Japan increased by 14.2%; exports to ASEAN grew by 79.2%; to China upped by 20%; to Taiwan increased by 32% and to Canada rose by over 133%.
