VASEP PROPOSES TO COOPERATE WITH 4 STATE AGENCIES TO COMBAT IUU FISHING
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In context of increasing issues related to sustainable development of fishery, regulation on IUU fishing is a big concern of Vietnam fishing. Concerning on the risk of yellow card issued by EU in the same way of some countries, so far VASEP has many cooperation programs and action together with Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and Directorate of Fisheries (D- Fish) and the fishing community, showing the strong commitment in compliance of IUU regulations and accompany with MARD, D-Fish and relevant state agencies.
The conference of introduction of Program: “Vietnam marine product enterprises commit to combating IUU fishing” held on 25th September 2017 in Ho Chi Minh city is a big event to launch a series of actions against IUU fishing. At the conference, a Press Statement on combating IUU fishing was published and VASEP’s IUU Steering Committee was introduced and the action plan for the a year was approved. The commitments of VASEP leaders and enterprises are highly appreciated by EU relevant representatives.
The conference is followed by VASEP’s IUU Steering Committee’s proposal to cooperate with 4 relevant state agencies including Vietnam Coast Guard, High Command of Border Guard, D-Fish and National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (Nafiqad) to implement some actions in the program of combating IUU fishing.
On 5th October 2017, VASEP has sent documents No 154/2017/CV-VASEP, 155/2017/CV-VASEP, 156/2017/CV-VASEP and 157/2017/CV-VASEP to the agencies to propose the cooperation plan.
