At this time of year, farmers in the districts of Cau Ngang, Tra Cu, Chau Thanh (Tra Vinh Province) are harvesting tilapia farmed in integrated systems with whiteleg shrimp.
According to local farmers, thanks to exports to the U.S. market, the price of commercial tilapia has doubled from 15,000 VND to 36,000 VND per kilogram, enabling high profits. With a stocking density of about 10 fish per square meter, after five months of farming, the fish reach an average weight of 700–750 grams. After deducting costs, farmers earn a profit of approximately 10,000 VND per kilogram.
The Tra Vinh Agricultural Extension Center states that tilapia is an easy-to-raise species with rarely affected by disease, suitable for rotational farming in shrimp ponds. Beyond economic benefits, tilapia consumes excess feed, reduces organic waste, and suppresses bacteria and pathogens affecting shrimp, contributing to improved water quality for the next shrimp crop.
Currently, the province has around 106 hectares of tilapia farming dedicated to export markets, in addition to more than 60 hectares operated by Cuu Long Seafood Joint Stock Company.
According to the Tra Vinh Department of Agriculture and Environment, over 2,300 aquaculture households in the province have been issued official certifications. These operations are concentrated in Duyen Hai District, Duyen Hai Town, Cau Ngang, Chau Thanh, and Tra Cu. Authorities recommend that farmers use high-quality fingerlings, follow proper farming practices, and establish partnerships with enterprises in the production–consumption chain to ensure sustainable development and expand export opportunities for tilapia.

Export value to the market reached USD 4 million, up 24% compared to the same month in 2025. Cumulative exports in the first five months of 2026 totaled USD 24 million, an impressive 48% increase year-on-year.

Cumulative exports in the first half of 2026 totaled nearly US$5.8 billion, representing a 12.8% increase compared with the same period last year. Exports to China and Hong Kong continued to accelerate, while shipments to the United States rebounded strongly in June. In contrast, exports to the EU, Japan, and the Middle East remained sluggish or recorded slight declines.

Amid continued volatility in the global seafood market, this result demonstrates that the shrimp sector has maintained positive growth momentum, supported by improving demand in several Asian markets, particularly China.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On June 16, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau Province announced that the locality has established a farming area code for nearly 30,400 hectares of mud crab aquaculture and granted export facility codes to five enterprises eligible to export mud crab officially to markets such as China, Cambodia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In the first four months of 2026, pangasius exports to the US reached USD 106 million, up 4% compared to the same period in 2025. In April 2026 alone, export value totaled USD 38 million, marking a 20% year-on-year increase and the first positive growth recorded after an extended period of decline.
