Four-Star BAP for four Vietnam shrimp companies
(vasep.com.vn) On the evening of 6 August, 2014, in the framework of Vietfish 2014 in HCMC, Mr. Carson Roper, representative of Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) rewarded four-star "Best Aquaculture Practices" to Minh Phu Seafood Corporation, Ut Xi Aquatic Products Processing Joint Stock Company and Soc Trang Seafood Joint stock Company (Stapimex).
Those are companies which completed BAP assessment procedures for the whole production chain including feed mill, hatchery, fish farm and process factory.
There are only 7 companies recognized as four-star BAP, 4 of which are Vietnamese ones, including Thuan Phuoc Corporation, Minh Phu Seafood Corporation, Ut Xi Aquatic Products Processing Joint Stock Company and Soc Trang Seafood Joint stock Company. The other three are Zhanjiang Guolian Aquatic Products Group (China) Charoen Pokphand Foods Group and Thai Union Frozen Group (Thailand)
BAP Standards are now available for shrimp hatchery, and Pangasius is for years to come. Therefore, BAP 4-star is applied for shrimp hatcheries while pangasius processor highest certification is BAP 3 star. GAA is now building standards for hatcheries of many aquacultural species cho including pangasius and this is expected to be completed at the end of 2014.
