With proven efficiency in cost, productivity, and environmental protection, this model is suitable for large-scale expansion, especially in the province’s concentrated farming areas.

This initiative is part of a key strategy to boost GRDP growth to 8.5% in 2025 and lay the foundation for double-digit growth in the 2026–2030 period.

The province focuses on adopting international standards like ASC, BAP, GlobalGAP, and Organic to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of global markets.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In response to climate change and increasing market demands for sustainable aquaculture, the province of Cà Mau is scaling up its improved extensive shrimp farming model, which has proven both economically and environmentally effective.

According to several raw shrimp traders and seafood processing and export enterprises in the province, immediately after the United States announced a 90-day suspension of countervailing duties, reducing the tariff from 46% to 10%, raw shrimp prices in the market have begun to stabilize and slightly rebound, with increases ranging from VND 5,000 to VND 10,000 per kilogram depending on segment and size. This is a positive signal, providing shrimp farmers with renewed motivation to prepare for the upcoming production season.

Currently, many households in the suburbs of Ca Mau City are implementing a fairly effective pangasius farming model, bringing in a stable source of income. Unlike the industrial scale in other provinces in the region, the pangasius farming model here is quite simple, low-cost, and is considered a promising direction for farmers.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2024, the total brackish water shrimp farming area in Ca Mau reached 278,600 hectares, with a shrimp output of 242,000 tons. This output achieved 99.59% of the set target and marked a 4.57% increase compared to the same period last year. The average shrimp yield attained 869 kilograms per hectare per year, representing a 38 kilograms per hectare per year increase compared to 2023. Shrimp export turnover reached USD 1.12 billion, positioning Ca Mau amongst the nation's leading localities in this sector.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On November 18, Ms. Truong Ha Phuong Anh, Director of the Center for Investment Promotion and Business Support (iPEC), stated that during the Ca Mau Province Agricultural and Aquatic Products Trade Promotion Conference 2024, held on November 15, there were 209 direct trade interactions between 42 seafood processing and exporting enterprises, OCOP producers in the province, and five leading domestic retail companies: Central Retail, Saigon Co.op, Kingfood Mart, Bach Hoa Xanh, and Satra Supermarket.

(seafood.com.vn) Decision no 1587/QD-UBND approving the Investment and Upgrading Plan for Fisheries Infrastructure until 2030, with a vision to 2045, of the People’s Committee of Ca Mau Province was announced on August 9, 2024. The objective is to complete the construction of 13 fishing ports.

The rice-shrimp cultivation area of Thoi Binh district in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has received Best Aquaculture Practices' (BAP) certification of the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA).

Of which, aquaculture output reached 205,300 tons, an increase of 0.64%, and exploitation output reached 120,870 tons, an increase of 3.16%.

Ca Mau will have two 190-hectare seafood complexes in Nam Can district and a 178-hectare complex in Dam Doi district.

The southernmost locality is developing shrimp farming models that generate large outputs but are environment-friendly.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) By the end of July 2021, Soc Trang province is leading in seafood export with US$570 million, accounting for 11.3% of Vietnam's total turnover. In which, shrimp exports accounted for 94% with 535 million USD, the rest were fish cakes, surimi, squid, octopus and other mollusks.

In the first 6 months of 2021, shrimp export turnover of Ca Mau province - a key seafood province in the Mekong Delta, is estimated at 400 million USD, up 16.6% over the same period in 2020. Forecast in 2021, shrimp export of the province reached over 1 billion USD.
