(seafood.vassep.com.vn) In order to contribute to ensuring the rights and interests of producers and consumers when using the GI of Ca Mau black tiger shrimp, the Department of Science and Technology of Ca Mau province has just issued the Regulation on control of geographical indications "Ca Mau" for the province's black tiger shrimp.
The regulated contents of control include: Control of compliance with regulations on farming and processing; control over product origin (variety, geographical area); control signs using geographical indications; quality control of final products bearing geographical indications in trade and other related matters.
Previously, on September 30, 2021, the National Office of Intellectual Property issued Decision 4287/QD-SHTT on the granting of a geographical indication registration certificate No. 00110 for black tiger shrimp products of Ca Mau province. Provincial Department of Science and Technology is the organization that manages this GI. The geographical area includes communes, wards and towns in Ca Mau province.
Ca Mau province has an aquaculture area of over 300,000 hectares, of which shrimp farming area is about 280,000 hectares. Ca Mau black tiger shrimp is one of the province's strengths. Currently, Ca Mau black tiger shrimp has been certified by many international organizations such as ASC, B.A.P, GlobalGAP, EU, Naturland... present in over 90 countries and territories. On average, the province processes shrimp for export with an export value of over 1 billion USD annually.
Ca Mau has set a goal that by 2030, the shrimp farming area will remain stable, but the output and quality of shrimp will increase through the promotion of the application of science, technology and high technology.
In the first 10 months of 2021, Ca Mau's shrimp exports reached 764 million USD, up 13% over the same period last year. In which, the province's export of black tiger shrimp alone reached 267 million USD, up 14% over the same period in 2020.
