Pursuant to Ministry of Finance’s Circular No. 01/2012/TT-BTC (TT01) (dated January 3rd 2012) on guiding customs clearance of import/export consignments which are compulsory to be quarantined, consignments objected to quarantine must be enclosed with Freight transport permits and Certificate of Quarantine before leaving the port.
Complying with the Circular, enterprises must wait for a longer time before their consignments’ entry and pay a lot of additional fees for storage at port (cost for power with over US$120 per day per container) to wait for Certificate of quarantine. Based on enterprises’ petitions, on August 24th 2012, VASEP had a meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on petitioning to ease enterprises’ problems in the process of implementing the Circular.
In August 29th 2012, VASEP received feedback from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) about the Association’s petitions. Based on the directions of Minister of MARD, VASEP requested Department of Animal Health:
1. To grant original Certificate of Quarantine timely for consignments which meet the requirements without its result of radiation testing.
2. To consignments which are obliged to submit testing result or original Health Certificate granted by country of origin, quarantine agencies should grant enterprises “Freight transport permits” for them to finish Customs procedures and return consignments for storage in their warehouse. The consignments also include those imported to outsource, trade and process to export.

While the price of 1 kg of shrimp hovers around 20 USD, the value of 1 kg of chitosan—extracted from shrimp—can soar to 500 USD. This highlights a significant challenge within the seafood processing industry.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Sao Ta Foods Joint Stock Company (FIMEX VN - HoSE: FMC) concluded Q3/2024 with significant growth in revenue. Specifically, Sao Ta Food recorded revenue of VND 2,845 billion, a 58.6% increase year-on-year. The company's profit after tax reached VND 95 billion, up 6.2%.
VASEP's Seafood Export Report for the third quarter of 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of Vietnam's seafood export performance in the first nine months, with impressive results reaching $7.2 billion—an increase of 9% over the same period last year. In the third quarter alone, seafood exports grew by 15%, totaling $2.8 billion. This growth is attributed to a recovery in demand and prices in key markets such as the U.S. and China, as well as the competitive advantage of value-added products in markets like Japan and Australia.
