Aquaseed centers to be established in the Mekong Delta
April 15, 2013, 06:20 PM
The Mekong Delta’s provinces are running numerous projects to supply 65 billion disease-free seedlings for aquaculture.

Accordingly, the targeted numbers of seeds of black tiger prawn, crustacean, molluscs, freshwater prawn and fish will register respectively 35 billion, 500 million, 11 billion, 3.5 billion and 15 billion by 2015.

To meet the target, a Southern freshwater fish seed center will be set up in Tien Giang Province and three provincial marine seed centers will be established in Hon Khoai (Ca Mau Province), Bac Lieu Town (Bac Lieu Province) and Phu Quoc (KienGiang Province) within the next 2 years.

Around 30 billion black tiger prawn seeds are stocked in the Mekong Delta annually but local supply is very limited. As a result, farmers must purchase the seedlings from the Central provinces.
