Vietnam tuna exports in 2021

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's tuna exports to the EU in 2021 were nearly equivalent to 2020, reaching US$144 million, up 6 %. However, tuna exports to countries in the bloc have changed and most notably to the French market.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In November 2021, Vietnam's tuna exports continued to grow strongly by 51% over the same period in 2020, reaching more than 78 million USD. It is estimated that tuna exports in December will also grow at the same rate, and is estimated at about 85 million USD, bringing the total value of tuna exports in 2021 to about 757 million USD.

Israel continues to be Vietnam's third largest single tuna export market after the US and Italy.

In June alone, the value of tuna exports to this market jumped 283% over the same period in 2020, reaching nearly $2.1 million. Accumulated in the first 6 months of 2021, the export value of tuna to Italy reached nearly 22.5 million USD, up 130% over the same period in 2020.

(seafood. vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's tuna exports to Chile in the first 6 months of 2021 reached $3.3 million, accounting for nearly 1% of Vietnam's total tuna export value during this period, increased by 4.4% over the same period. Although the proportion is not high, thanks to the effective free trade agreements between Vietnam and Chile, Vietnamese tuna will have many opportunities to expand its market share in this market in the near future.

However, with unremitting efforts and market acumen, the country's tuna export results in the first half of 2021 still increased by 21% over the same period of last year, reaching 355 million USD.

According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, in the first 5 months of 2021, the Middle East is Vietnam's fourth largest tuna export market after the US, EU and CPTPP. The value of Vietnam's tuna exports to this market block reached nearly 27 million USD, accounting for 9% of the total value of Vietnam's tuna exports, and up 7% over the same period in 2020.

As a result, the total value of Vietnam's tuna exports in the first three months of the year increased by 3.2% compared to the first quarter of 2020 to more than 151 million USD.
