Da Nang: more fishing boats installed satellite devices
February 13, 2013, 04:09 PM
A global system for communications (GSM) will cover other 51 fishing boats operating in water areas in the central city of Da Nang.

This is part of a French-sponsored ODA project on observation systems for fishing boats, fishing grounds and fisheries resources using Movimar Stateline.

With the installments of vessel monitoring system (VMS), fishermen could get access to information on weather conditions, storm alerts and sea route.

The project is expected to assist local fishermen in offshore fishing and fishery expansion.

Viet Nam is home to 130,000 fishing vessels of which over 20,000 have capacity of over 90 CV.

So far, around 3,000 fishing vessels in 28 coastal provinces and cities were given free-of-charge VMS installments.
