(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, seafood exports by the country until mid-September 2013 registered US$4.435 billion, up 5.1 percent from that of the same period of 2012.

The figure in September 2013 was estimated to reach US$550 – 560 million, driving total seafood exports through September to amount over US$4.7 billion, up 4.4 percent from the compatible period of 2012.

Among Vietnam’s total shrimp exports, the proportion of exported whiteleg shrimp is increasingly high, from 33 percent of the last year to 46.7 percent. The proportion of black tiger shrimp was 46.3 percent. Through fortnight of September 2013, whiteleg shrimp exports registered US$875 million while black tiger shrimp exports reached US$848 million. Total shrimp exports in Jan-Sep 2013 were estimated to reach more than US$2 billion including US$952 million of whiteleg shrimp export turnover, up 80 percent over the last year and US$928 million of black tiger shrimp export turnover (+2.1 percent).

Shrimp exports of will be boosted in upcoming months thanks to some favorable conditions in the U.S. Recently, Vietnam shrimp has just escaped from antidumping duty of POR7 and countervailing duty which were decided by the U.S Department of Commerce.

In contrast, exports of pangasius tend to go down since the third quarter of this year (down 1.4 percent in July, 7.7 percent in August and nearly 19 percent in September). Year to date pangasius exports were estimated to register US$1.25 billion, down 3.5 percent from the compatible time of last year.

Vietnam estimated seafood exports, Jan-Sep 2013 (US$mil.)
