Shrimp companies and farmers pledged to produce safe shrimp

Under the programme, farmers are committed not to use banned antibiotics and chemicals during farming process, especially at harvesting time; and not to inject foreign matters into raw shrimp. Meanwhile, processors pledged to purchase raw shrimp at a reasonable price, while farmers who sell shrimp directly to processors will enjoy price incentives regarding prices.

All necessary steps will be taken to prevent any kind of trading that damages farmers’ interests. With 270,000ha, Ca Mau province has the largest shrimp farming area in the country, which yields an annual output of approximately 150,000MT, and the export reaches more than US$600 million per year. Ca Mau plans to produce safe shrimp material as a way to confirm that the local shrimp products meet international standards. (VietFishNews)
