August 01, 2017, 04:26 PM
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Australia is a potential market of Vietnam thanks to high demand for shrimp. From 2007 to 2011, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to Australia ranged from US$60 to US$86 million.

After 2011, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to this market touched over US$100 million, especially hit a peak of over US$151 million in 2014. However, exports to this market in 2015 and 2016 fell more than 20% compared to those in 2014 as Australia increasingly applied technical measures for shrimp imports into the country.

Australia stayed as the 7th largest importer of Vietnam shrimp, accounting for 3.6% of Vietnam's shrimp exports to markets. In 2016, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to Australia amounted to US$114.6 million, up 1.4% over 2015. In the first four months of 2017, shrimp exports to the market hit US$28.7 million, up 1.6% over the same period in 2016.

For shrimp items exporting to Australia, shipments of processed shrimp accounted for 78% of Vietnam’s total shrimp exports to this market. In the past five years, Vietnam has always been Australia's largest supplier of processed shrimp.
