(vasep.com.vn) After a sharp decrease in QI/2013, Vietnam’s seafood exports started to rebound in April. Seafood exports in May 2013 continued the positive momentum of April, reaching US$592 million, up 8.3 percent year on year.

(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, in the first 5 months of 2013, Vietnam’s tuna exports to EU made up 22.9 percent of the country’s total tuna export value. Tuna exports to the market during Jan-May of 2013 attained US$57.935 million, up 37.3 percent over that of the same period of 2012.

According to Vietnam Customs, pangasius exports reached US$174.09 million in May 2013, up 15.7 percent compared with that of May 2012. In the first five months, Vietnam generated US$708.89 million, up 1.5 percent from the same period of 2012.

(vasep.com.vn) Along with Japan and EU, the U.S. is one of three main importers of Vietnam shrimp. In 2012, Vietnam shrimp shipments to this market sharply decreased of 18.6 percent from the previous year due to low demand, instability of domestic raw shrimp supplies and disease outbreaks.

The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) estimates that next year, salmon and trout total production will be about 530,000 tonnes, which represents a decrease of 24 per cent compared to that expected for 2013, reaching 700,000 tonnes.

Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), forecast that this year’s seafood exports will likely amount to US$6.5 billion, up about US$300 million from 2012, despite a number of key products facing export difficulties.

Peruvian fish exports generated in April generated USD 98.1 million in revenue, representing a 40 per cent decrease compared to the same month in 2012, when its value was USD 163.3 million.
