(Vietnam News Brief) Vietnam earned over $1.066 billion from pangasius fish exports in the year up to August 15, rising 1.8% from the same period last year.
The country’s revenue from pangasius fish exports reached nearly $137.5 million in July and $75.67 million in the first half of August, the association said.
The EU remained the biggest importer of Vietnamese pangasius fish in the year up to August 15, purchasing pangasius fish products worth $272.2 million from the Southeast Asian country, down 18.8% on year and accounted for 25.5% of total Vietnamese export revenue from pangasius fish.
The U.S. followed with the import value of $235.16 million, surging 34.9% on year while the ASEAN ranked third with $67.94 million, up 3.4% on year.
The Vietnamese pangasius fish shipments to China and Hong Kong jumped 41.2% to $43.2 million while those to Germany dropped 42% to $34.24 million during the period.
Pangasius fish is one of Vietnam’s export staples. In 2012, the country expects to earn $2 billion from shipping pangasius fish abroad, up from $1.8 billion in 2011.
