(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has sent the Prime Minister a report on pangasius production and suggested some timely policies to help developing fishery industry.
Accordingly, the Ministry demanded relevant agencies to seriously control fish farm planning to ease bottlenecks in fish production and distribution in Mekong Delta. In 2012, MARD plans to remain fish farming area of 5,500 – 6,000 hectares with total volume of 1.2 – 1.25 million MT as well as strengthen quality inspection of fish.
MARD petitions the Prime Minister to direct the State Bank of Vietnam to assist farmers and processors by restructuring their debts and providing credits for farmers to stock fish and producers to purchase raw material for processing.
To mitigate losses of shrimp breeders in Mekong Delta and Central coastal provinces, it is necessary to launch policies on restructuring bad debt and offering credits with preferential interest rate to help farmers keep business.
