New Wind Seafood Co., Ltd sold 90 percent of shrimp to Japan
(vasep.com.vn) In the eight months of 2012, New Wind Seafood Co., Ltd brought back US$8 million from shrimp export, in which Japan accounted 90 percent of its sales. The rest was shipped to South Korea and the U.S. New Wind Seafood traded high value products like breaded shrimp, tempura shrimp,…This period, sales to South Korea and the U.S. remained stable; but shrimp prices paid by Korean buyers were lower than those by Japanese ones.
Japan is the traditional market of New Wind Seafood. However, the market imposes now mandatory test of all shrimp products from Vietnam for ethoxyquin. The new rule pushed the company get 30 percent rise in expenses for quality control before export.
“It is necessary to be compliant with Japanese rules in order to introduce shrimp products into this market. New Wind Seafood has well done the requirement,” said Nguyen Hai Trieu, the firm’s General Director.
To compensate the costs of product quality testing, the company must sell shrimp at higher prices. The new quotation was accepted by Japanese importers which are highly appreciated New Wind Seafood’s products because of its high quality.
Due to economic troubles in international markets, New Wind Seafood did not develop production but focused in upgrade processing chain to ensure the quality. Therefore, in the last months of 2012, the company will keep the same export volume and value.
Currently, it cooperates with some farmers in Ben Tre and Tien Giang provinces to produce high quality of raw shrimp for processing to export.
