(vasep.com.vn) In the first half of 2012, Binh Long Company Limited (Bilofish) kept its pangasius export to Middle East stable. Fish sales to this destination started to soar up since July. Middle East market represented a 70 percent proportion of the company’s total earnings from pangasius export.
According to Bilofish’s Deputy Director, the EU still showed a quiet trend and accounted for only 15 percent of the company’s fish export, down 50 percent from the same period of 2011. Bilofish had to sell fish to European buyers at a lower level than that in the previous years; but the price was more stable than that of fish shipped to other consuming markets.
Currently, European countries have low demand for pangasius, fish consumption in these destinations also remained weak. Therefore, some traditional partners of Bilofish reduced their orders on fish.
In early August this year, Bilofish started its second fish farming by stocking fish in five ponds for an estimated production of about 200,000 MT in late 2012. The new fish harvest is expected to satisfy 40 percent of raw fish for processing.
