Vietnam cephalopod exports to China increased by 21%

In the past 3 years, Vietnam's cephalopod exports to China have tended to grow continuously. Export value in 2020 increased by nearly 61% compared to 2019. In 2021, exports to this market have continued to grow.

According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, in the first 4 months of the year, cephalopod exports to China increased by 21%, reaching more than US$9.7 million. However, after continuous growth in the first 3 months of the year, the value of Vietnam's cephalopod exports to China in April decreased by 34%, reaching nearly $2.8 million.

In 2021, the Covid-19 epidemic in China has been somewhat controlled, so the country's cephalopod imports have recovered.

Squid products account for 90%, octopus only accounts for 10% of total cephalopod exports to China. In the context of the Covid-19 epidemic occurring worldwide, the demand for squid, especially dried/grilled squid, tends to increase sharply in China as well as in all import markets. Imports of dried/grilled squid into China from Vietnam continued to grow impressively by more than 300% compared to 2020. Besides, Vietnam's fresh and frozen squid exports to this market have also recovered. Meanwhile, exports of octopus products were lower than the same period last year
